Cristiano Ronaldo Joined Real Madrid From Manchester United On June 11

Cristiano Ronaldo became the most expensive football player in the world on this day 11 years ago, as Manchester United accepted an £80 million transfer offer from Real Madrid for their Portuguese star.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been one of the best players of the last decade. He is still performing at the top-level with Juventus in the Serie A after moving to Italy from Spain a couple of years ago.

Already the best player in the world, Ronaldo had won three successive Premier League titles with the Red Devils and reached back-to-back Champions League final.

He was given the No. 9 shirt, as Real Madrid legend Raul was the one who had the No. 7 on his back. However, Raul left Santiago Bernabeu in the next summer and Ronaldo received the iconic number 7 shirt.

The first trophy Ronaldo won in his nine-year spell at Real Madrid was the 2011 Copa del Rey, in his second season with the club. Ronaldo lifted the Spanish La Liga for the first time in the following season, scoring 46 goals in 38 league appearances.

He finished the campaign with 60 goals in all competitions – his best record in a single season at Real Madrid.

He netted 451 times in 438 competitive appearances with Real Madrid. He registered in all of the competitions he featured in: 312 in La Liga, 105 in the Champions League, 22 in the Copa del Rey, six in the Club World Cup, four in the Spanish Super Cup and two in the UEFA Super Cup.
