Asian Games gold medalist Dingko Singh, who was recently in Delhi
for cancer treatment, has tested positive for Covid-19 in Manipur.
Dingko was scheduled for a radiotherapy much earlier in Delhi but the process was delayed due to the lockdown in India announced on March 25. The northeastern state of Manipur on Sunday witnessed its first high-profile coronavirus case.
He has been suffering from liver cancer since 2017 and was undergoing radiation therapy at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in New Delhi after he returned to Manipur, he was first diagnosed with jaundice and later tested positive for the coronavirus on Sunday.
The Manipuri was a
swashbuckling bantamweight boxer and won the Asian Games gold in the 1998
edition in Bangkok.
In 2013, he was conferred with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian honour in the country.
