The reports were that 10 Indian soldiers were missing from Monday night onwards after the conflict where 20 Indian soldiers were killed in action. The conflict occurred at the south bank of Galwan river, which flows in an east-west direction before it's confluence with Shayok river.

Mr Modi said on Wednesday that "India wants peace, but is capable of giving a befitting reply". He has called a meeting of India's major political parties on Friday to discuss the China situation.

The government is considering hiking customs duty on a number of products, mainly imported from China though nothing has been finalised as yet.

India imports from China worth US$ 90,398 million, with a partner share of 14.63 percent. According to trade analysis China is the biggest import partner of India. It's about almost 400 Billion INR. However due to Pandemic Coronavirus Lockdown it has been reduced up to 327 Billion INR. In 2019, India’s exports to China rose 3.8% to $17.1 billion; while imports contracted 7.5% to $68.3 billion in the same year. While companies declined to comment on the issue of this, senior executives at many of these Chinese firms said there has been no impact on sales yet.

The focus would be on cutting down import of non-essential items, the source said. The move to raise duty also assumes significance as the government is working on ways to boost local manufacturing and promote Make in India.
