DMK MLA J. Anbazhagan passes away
Tamil nadu politician J. Anbazhagan, one of the DMK's most prominent member died in Chennai this morning after battling coronavirus for over a week.
Sixty-two-year-old
J. Anbazhagan, MLA and senior Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader, became the
first law maker in India to die of COVID-19. He was admitted
to hospital on June 2 and had tested positive for COVID-19 at the time.
On
June 3, he was put on ventilator support. He was initially put on 90% oxygen on
the ventilator.
He improved gradually and was later put on 40% oxygen. On June 7, his
condition disintegrated.
Oxygen
requirement went up and cardiac functions broken. Anbazhagan’s chronic kidney disease also worsened, said the hospital.
Chief Minister E
Palaniswami and DMK chief MK Stalin have condoled the politician's death. Mr
Stalin announced three-day mourning and said the DMK flag would be at half-mast
at all party offices. All party events have also been called off.
