Usain Bolt, eight-time olympic gold winner tests positive for coronavirus after celebrating birthday in Jamaica

An eleven-time World Champion, eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt has tested positive of Covid-19,  just days after he celebrated his 34th birthday with an expensive party.



He confirmed his test result & urged anyone who had been in contact with him to go into quarantine. Health and wellness minister Christopher Tufton confirmed late on Monday, according to the Jamaica Observer. Along with the cricketer Chris Gayle, Football stars Leon Bailey and Raheem Sterling were also reportedly present at the party. There wasn’t any social distancing rule being observed at the party and none of them seen in the videos from the party were wearing masks as well.

He showed his emotion by posting a photo of himself holding his daughter, Olympia, who was born in May.

Bolt posted a short video clip on his Twitter where he confirmed that he would go into self-isolation and said,

“Good morning everybody. I’m confirmed of Covid-19. I did a test on Saturday.”

“Social media says that I am confirmed COVID-19. Did a test on Saturday, trying to be responsible, stay in and stay away from my friends,” the retired great, considered the greatest sprinter of all time, said.

“Also I have no symptoms, so I am going to quarantine myself and wait on the confirmation to see what the protocol from the Ministry of Health is. Until I get a confirmation, I want to tell my friends just to be safe and just to take it easy,” he added.

Bolt is the The only sprinter to win the 100m and 200m golds at three consecutive Olympics (2008, 2012 and 2016).

Usain Bolt is still the fastest man in history after setting a world record at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin with a sprint time of 9.58 seconds in the 100-metre event.
